What is a Matterport digital twin?

Matterport scanning captures spatial data and images from a location and combines them to create a 3D model through which the viewer can navigate.

There are two main ways to experience the Matterport 3D environment: the immersive Walkthrough View, where the viewer is “in” the environment rather like a computer game or Google Street View. The other method is to see the space as the freely moving 3D Dollhouse View. This is both very eye-catching and a great way to understand how all the areas of the space relate to one another. Within this mode there is also the option to view the space as floor plans in Floor Plan View, again giving the viewer the best idea of how the various areas of each floor relate to one another.

The data from the scan is contained in the ‘Matterpak’, which can be used in third-party architectural or engineering software, to stage, redesign or quantify the space.
